#9. Royal Shrovetide Football
Royal Shrovetide Football is much like the soccer we know today, only that there is no court. The game is disputed between the inhabitants of two neighboring towns and simply consists of bringing a leather ball to the rival town. If the ball gets to enter the rival village church, you win the game. It seems simple enough, but, imagine how difficult it is to carry a ball more than 5 kilometers away, with a lot of people from the neighboring village trying to take it off. At least it’s not as wild as it used to be in the past, where fists and knives were allowed.
